Alitalia is Italy’s flag carrier, with its head office found in Rome. it is the main hub of Leonardo da Vinci – Fiumicino Airport, in Rome. It also has a secondary hub, which can be found at Linate Airport in Milan.
Alitalia flies to 97 destinations across the globe, and have codeshare agreements with airlines from Asia, the Middle East, South America, and across Europe. They have also joined the SkyTeam Alliance, allowing passengers to travel to even more destinations, using an Alitalia ticket.
On the 2nd of May 2017, Alitalia went into administration after the Italian government formally approved the move.

Alitalia Airlines Travel Documents

When traveling domestically, a formal proof of identification is needed, as well as a valid ticket or boarding pass. International travelers are required to have a valid passport, as well as any relevant VISA’s.

When checking in, you are able to check-in via your smartphone using Alitalia’s app, you are able to check-in online 24 hours before your flight. You are also able to do a fast check-in meaning you can check-in at a kiosk, or phone the airline to check-in.
Alitalia Airlines Business Lounges
Your ticket type does not determine if you can have access to the business lounges through Alitalia, but you are able to purchase a ticket that allows you to gain entry to a lounge at select airports.
You can purchase these tickets online through your booking, you are also able to purchase them at the airport. The access lounges are reserved for departing passengers and passengers in transit only.

Alitalia Baggage Allowance Policy
For your checked luggage, you bag cannot weigh more than 23 kgs. If your bag is over this weight you will be fined. Your bag cannot exceed 32 kgs, or it will not be allowed onto the aircraft unless special provisions have been made and verified beforehand.
Every travel class except for the Light traveller may have one piece of checked baggage, while Comfort travellers are allowed two pieces.
The fine for excess baggage is dependant on which airport you are leaving from. Please consult the airline kiosk before your departure date to find out the relevant information for your particular airport.
For hand luggage, a bag weighing no more than 8 kgs is permitted, and the dimensions must not exceed 55x35x25. Any bag larger than this is subject to a fine, and can lead to it needing to be checked or not allowed on the flight at all.
