Green Africa Airways (flygaa.com) was recently issued its air operator certificate, and commenced flights from its base in Lagos during the second or third quarter of 2017. The airline also recently just inked a landmark deal with Boeing for 50 737 MAX 8 aircraft, with the option to buy 50 more. The deal carried a list price of $11.7 billion, and one of the largest airplane orders from Africa in history.
The Nigerian aviation sector has been plagued by a range of issues varying from forex and fuel scarcity to constant flight delays, cancellations and exorbitant flight prices. It is expected that Green Africa Airways’ launch will introduce much needed competition into the Nigerian air travel industry, with obvious advantage for consumers.
Green Africa Airways is a new Nigerian airline. It is expected that it will commence operations during 2017. Green Africa Airways has recently received its air transport license following its application earlier in 2016. Green Africa Airways will be headquartered and based at Murtula Muhammed International Airport. Lagos. The new airline initially plans to operate domestic flights within Nigeria using leased mid-sized jets.
“Our goal is to really develop the Nigerian market and create a strong home base. We want to make air travel accessible,” said airline founder and CEO Babawande Afolabi.
