Known as “the airline of Nigeria”, MedView was founded in 2007 as a charter airline operating Haji flights. Since then, the airline has expanded its reach to include destinations such as Abuja, Port Harcourt, Yola, Enugu and Maiduguri  in Nigeria, as well as Accra in Ghana and London-Gatwkick Airport in the United Kingdom. It also recently announced that it would start operating flights to Jeddah in Saudi Arabia as of 31 December 2015.

Medview Airlines History

Medview Airlines was not always a commercial domestic and regional carrier. The airline, which was founded in 2007, undertook to provide rescue operations for pilgrims stranded in Ilorin, Lagos, Sokoto, Maiduguri and Yola, as part of an operation controlled by the authorities of the National Hajj commission (NAHCON). During 2008 and 2009 the airline continued to carry out rescue Hajj operations impressing the NAHCON in the process.

It wasn’t until November 2012 that the airline began to provide domestic commercial services to the Nigerian travel market.  Considered a ‘baby’ airline at the time, MedView still received considerable support within the domestic travel market, de mainly to its track record and service history.

Medview Airlines Fleet

As of October 2014, MedView Airline offers a fleet of 5 aircraft that includes three Boeing 737-400, one Boeing 737-500 and a Boeing 767-300ER.

On occasion, the Airlines will lease a Boeing 737 and a Boeing 767 to cater to various flights involved in Hajj operations. The airline is expecting delivery of another Boeing for domestic and regional flights before the end of 2015.

Medview Airlines Baggage Allowance and Limitations

MedView has various industry standard baggage allowances in place for travellers:

  • Economy class for domestic flights – maximum of 23kg.
  • Economy class for regional flights – maximum of 30kg.
  • Business class for domestic flights – a maximum of 40kg.
  • Business class for regional flights – a maximum of 40kg.

Checked Luggage:

Baggage restrictions are dependent on route and cabin class.

Domestic Flights:

Economy Class – 1 bag weighing 23kg.

Business Class – 2 bags weighing a total of 40kg.

International Flights:

Economy Class – 3 bags weighing a combined total of 60kg.

Business Class – 3 bags weighing a combined total of 76kg.

Infants are allowed up to 10kg of baggage allowance, excluding 1 carry-cot or folding pram.

Med-View Airline allows the transportation of pets in the cargo hold of the aircraft.

Hand Luggage:

Business Class passengers may carry on board 10kg of hand luggage, while Economy Class passengers are entitled to 6kg.

Additionally, passengers may also take on board a handbag/ laptop bag, camera and folding wheelchair.

Medview Airlines Frequent Flyer Program

Med-View Airlines offers a loyalty program named “The Blue Flyer” program. This is an electronic loyalty programmer designed to reward passengers each time they fly and providing the opportunity to exchange the miles you earn for tickets.

There are 3 levels to the Blue Flyer membership:

Gold– 15% Bonus on miles earned bi-annually, VIP Lounge Access, Priority Boarding, Priority Check-in Transfers, Extra baggage allowance, Priority reservation waitlist

Silver– Entitled to family account, Priority Boarding, priority Check-In and transfers

Bronze-Earn miles, Choose Seat preference when available

Each level offers their own privileges and benefits and further advantages, depending on the level you choose. The levels miles are valid up until the 31st December each year and reset every 1st January. Passengers can either downgrade or maintain the level for next year.

Medview Airlines Check-in Options and Procedures

Passengers are required to be at the airport at least 1 hour prior to their domestic or regional flight departure. All check-in procedures for domestic flights close 30 minutes prior to departure and 40 minutes prior to departure for regional flights. Those wanting to avoid queues can make use of the airline’s online check-in feature, 24 hours prior to departure.

Airport Check-in

For international/ regional flights, airport check-in opens 3 hours before departure and closes 1 hour before departure. Travellers are advised to be at the airport 3 hours ahead of time.

For domestic flights, check-in closes 30 minutes before scheduled flight departure.

Online Check-in

The Med-View Airline online check-in option can be accessed 24 hours prior to flight departure for passengers with an e-ticket.

For domestic flights, online check-in opens 2 hours and closes 30 minutes before flight departure.

MedView Airlines In-flight Experience

The airline offers passengers a comfortable in-flight experience. The aircraft are clean and well-maintained and the cabin crew are dedicated to ensuring the safety and comfort of each passenger.

In-flight entertainment systems provide video and music for passenger enjoyment and meals and refreshments are made available. Standard seating arrangements are found on-board each aircraft, which means sufficient legroom and overhead compartment space comes standard.

Med-View Airline offers two cabin classes: Economy Class and Business Class.

Medview Airlines in the news

In April 2015, Med-View Airlines announced its plans to start operating international flights, after acquiring its newest Boeing 737-400. With another aircraft set for delivery this year, the airline is determined to include new routes to the likes of Dubai and Jeddah. Alhaji Muneer Bankole, the managing director of Med-View Airlines, expressed thanks to the First Bank of Nigeria for its role in the financing of the new aircraft.
