Why Free Travel Tools — and Why These Eight

Most travel-planning sites either bury their calculators behind sign-up walls or sell them as part of paid concierge packages. We built these eight tools because the questions they answer come up before you book anything: do I need a visa for this destination, what does a trip from Lagos to Accra realistically cost, how much should I budget per day in dirhams, what is the IATA code for Eko International. Every tool is free, requires no account and runs off the same verified database that powers the rest of the site. The point is to remove the friction from the planning stage so you can spend your time on the decisions that matter.

The Eight Tools at a Glance

Visa Eligibility Checker takes a destination country and your Nigerian passport profile and tells you the visa type required, the processing time and the fee. It links directly into the full visa guide for any destination so you can move from "do I need a visa" to "here are the documents I need" in two clicks. This is the most-used tool on the site and the first thing most international travellers should check.

Transport Fare Estimator compares current price ranges across bus, flight, train and ferry operators on any documented route. Pull up Lagos→Abuja and you see the realistic price range across GIGM, GUO, Peace Mass Transit, ABC Transport and the various airlines, plus duration and operator quality ratings. Use this before you commit to a single operator's site.

Travel Budget Calculator itemises trip cost in NGN with budget, mid-range and luxury tiers. Choose your destination, duration, traveller count and travel style, and the tool produces a per-day breakdown across accommodation, food, transport, attractions and discretionary spend. Useful for comparing trip costs across destinations before you commit, and for setting a realistic foreign-currency target before applying for an embassy visa.

Currency Converter handles NGN, USD, GBP, EUR and 20+ other currencies. Rates are pulled from a verified rates feed and updated on a regular cycle. Useful for translating quoted hotel rates, visa fees, package prices and embassy proof-of-funds requirements into naira terms.

Packing Checklist Generator builds a smart packing list tailored to your trip type, destination season, travel duration and group size. Useful for first-time international trips and for repeat travellers who want a structured starting list rather than freestyling each time.

Travel Duration Calculator looks up the travel time and distance between any two cities in our database. Useful for sequencing multi-city trips and for sanity-checking transport options when you have flexibility on routing.

Airport Code Finder searches every documented airport by name, IATA code or city. Useful when you have a code on a ticket and need to know which city and country it refers to, or when you are looking up a city's airport for booking purposes.

Timezone Converter handles meeting and flight-arrival times across timezones. Useful for booking transfers, scheduling calls with embassies in other zones, and avoiding the always-painful jet-lag arrival-time miscalculation.

How the Tools Connect

The eight tools are designed to be used in sequence as you plan a trip. A typical international planning workflow runs: visa eligibility checker → currency converter (to translate embassy proof-of-funds requirement into naira) → travel duration calculator (to confirm trip dates) → travel budget calculator (to model total cost) → transport fare estimator (to compare flight options to the destination) → packing checklist generator (to prepare for the trip) → timezone converter (for arrival-day scheduling). For domestic trips, you can usually skip the visa and currency tools and start directly with the budget calculator and fare estimator.

Each tool is connected to the underlying data on the site. The fare estimator pulls from our route and operator database. The visa eligibility checker pulls from the same visa requirements database that backs the visa directory. The budget calculator uses cost-of-living indices from the city pages. This means the tools stay current as the underlying data is updated rather than relying on hard-coded reference tables that go stale.

What We Are Not

These are planning tools, not booking platforms. We do not sell flights, tickets, hotel rooms or visa services. For booking, we link out to operator websites, hotel direct booking pages and embassy application portals — see the booking guides directory for the full operator-by-operator breakdown. For visa services, we link to the embassy or visa application centre that processes your application. The tools on this page exist to inform your decision; the actual booking happens elsewhere.

Privacy and Account-Free Use

Every tool on this page runs entirely without an account. We do not require sign-up, we do not store your queries, and we do not sell your data to advertisers. The trip budget you model, the fare comparison you pull, the visa eligibility you check — all of it stays in your browser. This is deliberate. The travel-tool market has trended toward sign-up walls and data harvesting; we have built the opposite. If a tool requires personal information (the visa eligibility checker asks for your destination and trip purpose), that information is used to generate the result and then discarded.

What's Coming Next

We add new tools based on the questions that appear in our search analytics. The current shortlist includes a flight emissions calculator, a multi-city trip optimiser, a per-diem foreign exchange tracker for business travellers, and a bus reservation availability checker. If there is a calculator you wish existed, send us a note via the contact page — most of the eight tools above started life as user requests.

Frequently Asked Questions

How accurate are the fare estimates? They are price ranges drawn from current verified operator data on documented routes, refreshed on a regular cycle. Always confirm against the operator's own site before booking — operators run flash promotions and surcharges that may shift the actual fare. Where does the currency-converter rate come from? The Central Bank of Nigeria official rate and a parallel-market reference rate from a verified rates feed, updated daily. We show both so you can budget realistically for what cards typically charge versus cash rates. Can I save my budget-calculator results? Currently no — results are session-only. We avoid storing personal data to keep the tools account-free. You can copy the result or take a screenshot before leaving the page. Do the tools work on mobile? Yes — every tool is responsive and works on mobile browsers without an app install.
