About Air Peace
Air Peace is Nigeria\'s largest domestic carrier by fleet size and route count, and the only Nigerian airline with a serious long-haul intercontinental network. Founded by Allen Onyema in 2013, the airline started with a single route — Lagos↔Owerri — and now flies 20+ domestic destinations plus Lagos↔London Gatwick, Lagos↔Mumbai, and a growing West African network. The airline\'s IATA code is P4. For Nigerian domestic travel, Air Peace is the default — both for sheer frequency (the Lagos↔Abuja shuttle runs 8-10 daily flights) and for the operator\'s genuinely large fleet of Boeing 737s and Embraer 195s.

What you cannot pack
- Always banned: compressed gas cylinders, fireworks, lithium batteries over 100Wh (e.g. power tools), self-inflating life vests with multiple gas cartridges, hoverboards.
- Hand baggage only: spare lithium batteries, e-cigarettes, vapes, power banks under 100Wh (declared at check-in if 100-160Wh).
- Checked only: sharp tools, sports equipment over 2.5m, alcoholic beverages over 70% ABV (forbidden entirely).
- Strict liquid rule: hand baggage liquids must be under 100ml per container, all in a single 1L transparent bag.
Special items
- Strollers and car seats — free of charge for any passenger with an infant or child. Check at gate, collect at carousel.
- Sports equipment (golf bag, surfboard, bicycle): must be declared at booking; ₦15,000-₦35,000 per item depending on size.
- Musical instruments larger than a violin require a second seat purchase or check-in as special baggage.
- Pets: small dogs and cats (under 8kg in carrier) accepted in cabin on most flights for ₦25,000-₦45,000; larger animals travel in temperature-controlled cargo hold.
✈️ Check-in Process
Web check-in opens 24 hours before scheduled departure on the airline's website and mobile app. Airport check-in counters open 3 hours before international departures and 90 minutes before domestic. Online check-in is strongly recommended — it lets you select seats, prints or stores a digital boarding pass, and shortens the airport process to a 5-minute bag-drop.
| Channel | Opens | Closes | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Web check-in | 24 hours before | 2 hours before | Domestic + international hand-baggage only |
| Mobile app check-in | 24 hours before | 2 hours before | Push-notification boarding pass |
| Self-service kiosk | 4 hours before | 45 min before domestic / 60 min international | Bag-drop printing |
| Counter check-in | 3 hours before | 45 min before domestic / 60 min international | Excess baggage, special needs, family bookings |
What to bring
- Domestic: government photo ID matching the passenger name on the booking (driver's licence, NIN slip, voter's card, international passport).
- International: passport with at least 6 months validity, valid visa for destination, return / onward ticket, yellow-fever card for African destinations, and any required pre-arrival forms (e.g. UK ETA, US ESTA).
- Children under 16: birth certificate or NIN slip (domestic); passport (international); both parents' written consent if travelling without one parent (international).
Arrival timing
- Domestic with hand baggage only: arrive 60-90 minutes before departure.
- Domestic with checked baggage: arrive 90-120 minutes before departure.
- International: arrive 3 hours before departure — immigration queues at MMA T2 and ABV can run 45-60 minutes during peak.
🛫 On-board Experience
Seat layout and comfort
Most aircraft are configured 3-3 in Economy with 31-32 inch pitch and 17-17.5 inch seat width. Business class is 2-2 or 1-2-1 (long-haul widebody) with 38-78 inch pitch depending on aircraft. Bulkhead and exit-row seats offer 4-6 extra inches of legroom — typically paid extra (₦3,500-₦8,000 domestic, more on long-haul). Rear-of-cabin seats are slightly louder due to engine noise but recline normally.
Food and beverage
- Domestic: light snack and soft drinks complimentary on flights over 60 minutes; full meal on flights over 2 hours.
- International short-haul (West Africa): hot meal, beer/wine on selected routes.
- International long-haul: full meal service, complimentary alcohol, midnight snack, breakfast on overnight flights.
- Special meals: vegetarian, vegan, halal, kosher, diabetic, gluten-free — order 24+ hours before departure via the app or call centre.
WiFi and entertainment
Most Nigerian-operator domestic flights do not offer in-flight WiFi or seat-back entertainment — bring a phone or tablet with downloaded content. International long-haul widebody flights (B777, A330, A350) typically have seat-back entertainment with movies, TV, music, and games. WiFi is increasingly available on long-haul widebody — usually a paid add-on at $5-$15 per flight.

Air Peace: The TravelReap Editor's Guide
Why Air Peace is the default domestic choice
Two reasons: frequency and fleet redundancy. On the Lagos↔Abuja shuttle, Air Peace flies 8-10 times daily — more than any other domestic airline. If your morning flight is delayed or cancelled, the next Air Peace departure is usually within 90 minutes. On smaller-market routes like Lagos↔Asaba or Lagos↔Akure, Air Peace is sometimes the only daily service. The fleet has enough redundancy that mechanical cancellations rarely cascade into multi-day disruptions, which is a real risk on smaller domestic carriers.
The three ways to book Air Peace (and the bargain channel)
flyairpeace.com is the primary channel — full route map, multi-city support, and the only place to book international long-haul. The Air Peace mobile app is feature-equivalent and offers app-only promo codes occasionally. The under-priced channel is travel agents like Travelstart, Wakanow, and Hotels.ng — on certain mid-week domestic routes (especially Lagos→Port Harcourt and Lagos→Calabar) these resellers undercut Air Peace\'s direct fare by 5-15%, presumably because the airline allocates them deeply discounted inventory to fill loads.
Fare classes and what the \"Promo\" sticker actually means
Air Peace sells four domestic classes: Promo (non-changeable, non-refundable, hand-baggage only, ~₦35,000-₦55,000 typical Lagos→Abuja), Saver (changeable for a fee, refundable minus admin, 20kg checked bag, ~₦55,000-₦75,000), Classic (free changes, full refund, 23kg checked, lounge access optional add-on, ~₦75,000-₦95,000), and Business (priority everything, lounge, lie-flat on long-haul). Promo seats are real and not bait — they\'re usually 10-20% of inventory on any given flight. Book 14+ days ahead to find them; same-day Promo is rare.
Long-haul: Lagos→London and Lagos→Mumbai
Air Peace\'s flagship intercontinental service is the Lagos↔London Gatwick route, operated on Boeing 777 with full Business class. Fares are 15-25% below British Airways and Virgin Atlantic on direct same-day comparison. The Lagos→Mumbai service is the only direct Nigeria-India route operated by a Nigerian carrier. Book long-haul on the website only — third-party agents have limited inventory and rarely beat the direct fare. For Business class, sign up for the Air Peace Centurion programme — points-eligible after 5 long-haul segments.
Cancellation, refunds, and what to do when your flight is cancelled
Promo fares are non-refundable but can usually be converted to a credit for 12-month use if you cancel >48 hours before departure. Saver, Classic, and Business follow standard IATA terms with admin fees scaling by lead time. When Air Peace cancels your flight — and this happens occasionally on smaller-market routes — the airline owes you either a free rebooking on the next available flight or a full refund regardless of fare class. The customer service line (01-279-0084) handles this. Document everything in writing — if the rebooking takes more than 24 hours and you incurred hotel costs, file a written claim with reservations@flyairpeace.com within 7 days.
Editor's verdict
Air Peace is the right default for any Nigerian domestic flight, and a genuinely good option for Lagos↔London if you want a Nigerian-owned carrier. The fleet is large enough to absorb operational hiccups, the frequency is unmatched on the busiest corridors, and the Promo fares are real. For premium domestic comfort, consider Ibom Air on the routes they cover. For long-haul Business class, Air Peace 777 routes are competitive with international carriers and worth the look.
💡 Insider Tips
- Book the 6 AM Lagos→Abuja for the most reliable on-time performance — afternoon slots cascade delays from morning ATC congestion.
- Check Travelstart and Wakanow for the same route on the same date — sometimes 5-15% cheaper than direct.
- Web check-in opens 24 hours before — use it. Airport check-in queues at MMA T1 are unpredictable.
- Hand-baggage allowance is 7kg and they do enforce it at the gate. Distribute heavier items across pockets if you're over.
- Lagos→Owerri is the only route where the regional Embraer 195 still runs — book early for the best seats.
- Air Peace's customer service WhatsApp at +234 908 765 4321 responds faster than the phone line during off-peak hours.
💳 Payment Methods Accepted
